a. Database Jewels
Article: Elementary School Students' Extracurricular Activities: The Effects Of Participation On Achievement And Teachers' Evaluations. Sociological Spectrum; Mar/Apr2006, Vol. 26 Issue 2, p117-147.
This article uses the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study to examine both the number and the types of extracurricular activities in which elementary school students participate and find significant differences in participation patterns by gender, race, and class.

A descriptive dictionary of British Malaya This is a rich source of historical information on cultural development as well as offering a fun way to look at Singapore culture and society as part of an ECA activity.Adventures of two youths in a journey to Siam and Java : with descriptions of Cochin-China, Cambodia, Sumatra and the Malay Archipelago
This beautifully illustrated item from 1881 shows the region through the eyes of two boys and would support ECA, cultural and geographic studies.
c. “Born Digital” Jewels
The article on Chek Jawa could form an interesting starting point for ECA as it outlines the appeal and the attractions of Chek Jawa for educators who want to use the “great outdoors” as a classroom.
(ii) Educators Resource List
Education can be defined as the gradual process of acquiring knowledge; the profession of teaching; something that prepares one for life; the activities of educating or instructing; and activities that impart knowledge or skill. Education has also to do with the imparting of good judgement and wisdom. One of its fundamental goals is the imparting of culture from generation to generation.

A look back at this historic building which was home to the Singapore Library (later renamed Raffles Library and Museum) from 1862 to 1876. The Victoria Memorial Hall has played a critical role in Singapore's political landscape. During the early stages of World War II, it served as a hospital and, at the war's conclusion, was the location for the trial of Japanese war criminals after their surrender.
